print-stained heart
got this idea from [info]mizra
and i want to thank her for a lot of suggestions.

this is my reading list for the year two thousand eleven. it is hefty. it contains old, new, and repeats (just because everyone needs a security blanket). i will mark them off as i finish - rate 'em - and maybe write a post with my more detailed opinions... maybe. you know how i love opinions.

this list is far from what it could be... yet i feel 60+ is a good goal for the year. however, i am always up for new suggestions so feel free to share! i like fiction, fantasy mostly, adventure and a little smidgen of romance is always nice. really anything well-written is pretty much a go. vampires are my weakness but sadly overdone these days... plus i am too darn picky on that front. i don't like things like gossip girl and "real life" b*tch fests, nor do i like stories about teenagers who are experiencing "love" for the first time and the sub-sequential torrid and ridiculous affair with some stupid boy -- i have enough caddy females in my life, i don't need to read about them. i like sweeping epics and humor and 3 dimensional female characters and i appreciate brilliant plots and well-developed characters. i can be persuaded to read non-fiction, but persuaded i must be. :D

i am very excited. whether i complete all or not, i now have all the books that snagged my fancy in one pile, which is something i have been wanting to do for a long time. here they all are, pretty little things, with no escape...

XD

Take a look!

http://www.goodreads.com/

It's like a site where you can record what you've read, are reading and going to read. You can review and share with your friends, so that they have an idea of what you're reading and maybe get some reading in themselves. :D

yes ma'am. its here and on the side bar of my facebook. it's positively one of my favorite written things ever. you influence my heart... and i want others to be influenced too :D

oh and yes! 'anansi boys' is just so GREAT! i love how gaiman can craft this epic journey of self-discovery and adventure and lore and romance... and in the story world, only a few days have passed. its such a hearty read... and so damn good! :D

i saw you didn't get into 'good omens', but that is another of my favorites. plus i ADORE 'neverwhere' and highly recommend it :D and 'american gods' was a fantastic trip... anansi makes a cameo appearance :D

love the mortal instruments series myself...I'm reading clockwork angel as I write this...it's a prologue to the moral instruments and it's pretty good so far.... I may have to give some of the books on the list a read...really enjoy Emily Bronte also. Happy Reading!!!

Wow, this is quite a list. I think I got through about 40 of mine... but I kept adding to it, so that makes up a lot for it. I only gave up on 4 of them.

DO NOT READ FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH. I think it was such a horrible, horrible book. Nothing good happens to those characters at all. NOTHING. It gets worse and worse as time goes on. It's beautifully-written, I can totally give her that. Even the worst of scenes looks so picturesque in my head. She writes well, but the plot? Ugh, please, no.
Just fair warning.

The Host was decent. I like Sci-Fi, so it was OK for me. It was more like a romance novel than a sci-fi novel, for sure. But there were a bunch of characters I kinda fell in love with, so, it happens. Look out for Ian! :D

Some of these books look oddly familiar. ;)
penny dreadful: burn baby burn[info]madlyxxmadd on December 29th, 2010 07:31 pm (UTC)
the forest of hands and teeth was a hard one for me. i have picked it up a few times but the back cover always put me off. i feel i should give it a chance (mostly so because i put it on this darn list) but i don't think i will get very far. i do appreciate good writing and to be honest, its the title that grabbed me... but i will be wary; i trust your opinion.

i started the host a long time ago but at the moment the twilight saga wasn't finished and all i wanted was more bella/edward angst :D i had to put it down for a later date. the story also opened up other doors for me... made me start contemplating what i really thought about 'alien invasions' and the like and who is the more evil forces: unknown others or humans, ourselves. it made for a horrid distraction whilst i was trying to concentrate.

hehe, you should. a lot are from your post :D hehe THANK YOU! :D
Mizra: angel greetings cas gabriel[info]mizra on December 29th, 2010 09:10 pm (UTC)
The cover and the writing itself is beautifully done. I agree to that. But the actual plot was so tragic and angsty and horroric (in the horror genre, that is). Just putting that out there.

lol, I picked it up waiting on Breaking Dawn, too. It was a different take, but still very similar. Lot of the same imagery from Bella and her time in Phoenix.

lol, you're welcome. ;)
penny dreadful: my fandom[info]madlyxxmadd on December 30th, 2010 06:33 am (UTC)
agreed. we'll see what happens. i am sure i will be sending you a message telling you that you were so right and lamenting the minutes wasted :D

yes. agreed, that's what i thought. apparently sequels are on their way... did you know this? i didn't. well its good to know she's continuing on in her craft :D

THANK YOU!

I dunno. A lot of people liked it and there's talk about a movie. To me, I always pictured scenes from The Village, so haha, I don't think that plays out the same way.

I heard she was making a sequel. I'd like to read that.
